Trace Turner is a freelance queer theatre director, writer, photographer, intimacy choreographer and administrator from Austin, Texas.
Having been described as a ‘blend between the fantastical and the natural’, Trace’s work strives to find new and visually interesting ways of telling honest and moving stories with hints of magic woven throughout.
Trace has always been drawn to the visual aspect of the performing arts, having first picked up a camera at the age of 10. Trace frequently incorporates their eye for photography into their theatrical work, believing that the role of the director is not unlike a visual artist.
Trace graduated from The Peter Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University with a degree in Directing. Since beginning their formal training in St. Louis, Trace was able to learn from many different directors, professors, and artists from all over the U.S. Trace has been continuing their education in Intimacy Choreography with Theatrical Intimacy Education and is currently seeking certification through Intimacy Directors and Choreographers.
Trace strives to create theatrical experiences that engage the whole body and vision without alienating an audience, but rather challenging audiences to engage with and even interact with the performance.
In their writing, Trace continues to work to uncover stories from our collective history and breathe new life into them on stage through a more queer and existential lens. Trace is greatly interested in the power of adaptation and how we can continue to reimagine these stories of old for our modern times.
